In defense of Wole Soyinka: Oke mmanwu n'eti onwe ya! by Kelechi Deca

Can any one tell me any government in this country since independence that Soyinka has not taken to he cleaners, even the Babangida's government that he served as the FRSC boss?

No bi today e start to dey disturb government, even at a very young age.
I do not agree with everything he says, I have never agreed with him in all things. But such disagreement will never and can not affect my reverence for him. He is Soyinka. And there is only one in the world. I hold him in high esteem. I have been reading some funny people say that though they revere him but.......What? That you revere a man does not mean that such a man is perfect, and if he says what you dont like, you start abusing him.
No, you are just a child for behaving like that.
For example, most if us worshiped, and still worship Ojukwu, we didnt like his getting married to Bianca, leaving the woman that was with him in thick and thin(well most of you are too young to know). But Eze Igbo Gburugburu was a god, and remain so till death. You don't disagree with gods. Some of us are still children, tha's why I have to explain such intricacies to you.
So I should abuse Soyinka because he said something I did not like? No, I was not raised up like you who abuse elders at slightest opportunities and still preach for a better society. Do you abuse your father when he does something you do not like?
When I was about to go to secondary school, my father gave me a copy of The Trial of Brother Jero, but first sat me down to tell me about the man who wrote it. According to him, if you do not know an author quite well, you wont understand his works.
This was in 1982 and most of you have not been thought of conceptualizing because your fathers have not even met your mothers.
But as at that time, my father told me that Soyinka is a GREAT man, and very controversial one at that. If Deca says you are a great man, nothing can say otherwise, because it takes a great man to know another great man.
He went on to narrate how Soyinka took over a Radio station, when he was very young and how he was jailed for two years because of the genocide in Biafra. And that the government of Gowon saw him as a spy. Shagari was in power then, and there was an issue that Soyinka was against that time, I cant remember now, my father said that he is the conscience of the nation, he says things as they are.He also tried to explain the man's literary style and why it is not easy to understand him on first reading as you would Achebe, but such things were too high for me.
If a matter is too high for you, you are wasting your time delving into such matter.
For some of us who are graduates of liberal arts with strong leaning in African Literature, this man is something else, and we are biased because of the type of education Arts give to the mind.
This is a man who just survived Prostrate Cancer, instead of staying at home recuperating, yet he is fighting for a better Nigeria.
Can any one tell me any government in this country since independence that Soyinka has not taken to he cleaners, even the Babangida's government that he served as the FRSC boss?
And if you know what it means to be a cousin to Fela Anikulapo Kuti, (Abami Eda) then you will understand.
Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka is a what Igbo people call Oke Mmanwu n' eti onwe ya!
Prof, ikajara akaja!
You dare not question such avatar.
I may not agree with you, but it removes nothing from who you are.
