Echo of My Mind: When Nigerians start Respecting You...

When Nigerians start respecting you too much, watch out!

You better be loaded to handle this life.

Poor people will ask for things you can't possibly give, and they'll turn on you if you can't come through. Rich folks will just assume you've got it made, when really you're just trying to learn from them and get their blessings so you can make it too.

Both extremes are bad news for you and whatever you're doing. The safest bet is to stick with the people around you. Whatever people around you are, so shall you be regardless of whether you have better or not.

UNTIL you're ready for bigger responsibilities.

If they're crying, cry with them; if they're laughing, laugh loudly; if they're complaining about the President and the economy, join in; if they see a chance of catching fish in the desert, agree with them; if they don't see anything good around them, clap for them and walk away.

But don't overdo it. Don't borrow their garment of negativity or live under their tent of despondency.

Keep doing your own thing and keep believing you can rise above the problems and that Nigeria has a great future from which you will have reap your personal good news.

Post positive stuff, (Gospel, quotable quotes, comedies, life and love  contents) play it cool, ignore the screaming news headlines and trending topics, and take care of your family.

Until you're ready for the biggest responsibilities and you've acquired enough resources  that negative people can't mess with you.

That's when Nigerians will really start respecting you...

And if you don't have energy for the drama, join the quiet ones.

Your Friend,

Isqil Najim
