When you are where you should be, you wont miss what is yours.... Sometimes, it is good to be there than be informed...
Over time, people have
wonder why the massive investment in roads, bridges and why government so much
on infrastructures. They have wondered why some of these money going to
contractors are not simply shared among poor people; they have wondered what
impact these roads and bridges will have on them. In answering
these, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers have dedicated this
year Annual Distinguished Lecture to address this issue.
Come July 5th
2012, all roads lead to Lagos Airport Hotel as engineers, investors,
and general public converges to meet policy makers and hear from our Engr Dr.
Kadir Hamza, the Lagos State Commissioner for works and infrastructures. The
event will also be used to honour the man who have contributed immensely to
science, engineering and technology over the years.
Dr Hamza will deliver a
technical presentation on “Road and Bridges
as Infrastructures: Economic impact on Lagos state” to the assembly of
engineers, academia, policy makers, and associate professionals among others.
Expected to chair the occasion is Mr. Elias Saad, the Chairman of HITECH
construction limited and in attendant will be other dignitaries drawn from both
private and public sector.
Dr. Kadri
Obafemi Hamzat is a product of the University of Ibadan where he graduated with
B.Sc. Honours, Second Class Upper Division in Agricultural Engineering (1986)
and M.Sc. in Crop Processing Engineering (1988). He thereafter proceeded to the
famous Silsoe College, Cranfield University, England where he obtained a Ph.D.
in System Process Engineering in 1992. To his credit, he was the first student
to complete his doctoral degree within three years in his Department at
Cranfield. He also holds a certificate in Computer/Windows Programming (1995)
of the Baruch College, City University of New York, USA.
A professional engineer,
thorough-bred systems integrator, seasoned administrator and consummate manager
of men and materials, Engr. Dr. Hamzat has had over two decades of work
experience in diverse areas of engineering practice including project
management, computer networking, enterprise system assessment, engineering
system design and implementation. He has, during this period, held enviable
positions in different world-class international organizations, including the
following:
- Human
Resources Administration Case Manager, City of New York, USA, March 1993 –
January 1996.
- Adjunct
Professor, College of New Rochelle, New York, USA – February 1995 –
January 1997.
- Associate
Director, Desktop/System Support, RTP Consulting Services, New
York, USA – Adjunct Professor, College of New Rochelle, New York, USA –
January 1996 – June 1997.
- Consultant
on System and Infrastructural Upgrade, Citibank NA/Compaq Computer
Services, New York, USA, June 1997 – September 1999.
- Adjunct
Professor, CTA Programme, Columbia University, New York, USA, September
1998 – June 2000.
- Vice-President,
Core Technology Support Group, Merrill Lynch Inc., New York, USA, October
1999– July 2002.
- Senior
Associate, PC Engineering, Morgan Stanley Inc., New York, USA, July 2002–
March 2005.
- CIO and Group Head, IT Strategy, Oando Plc., Lagos, Nigeria, March – July, 2005.
In recognition of his versatility
and global experience in engineering practice and ICT development and
deployment, Engr. Dr. Hamzat was appointed the Honourable Commissioner,
Ministry of Science and Technology, Lagos State in August 2005, a position he held
with distinction till June 2011. Thereafter, he was reappointed Honourable
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola
Administration on the 4th of July, 2011. He is happily married
and the union is blessed with children.
