The Owl who is god! (A great lesson to our blind leaders and foolish followers)

 All in all, followers who follow blind leaders, regardless of the motivation, do not normally escape from doom that befall their leaders or the consequences of their leaders' negative actions. It could be war, famine, economic pillaging or outright banishment of entire populace into slavery. Like the owl who is god, they generally suffer whatever fate their leaders' foolishness brought upon them.

Once upon a starlet midnight, there was an owl, who sat on a branch of an oak tree. Two grand moles tried to slip quietly by, unnoticed. “You!” said the owl. “Who?” they quavered, in fear and astonishment, for they could not believe it was possible for anyone to see them in that thick darkness. “You two!” said the owl. The moles hurried away and told the other creatures of the field and forest that owl was the greatest and the wisest of all animals because he can see in the dark and because he could answer any question.

“I’ll see about that,” said the secretary bird, and he called on the owl one night when it was again very dark. “How many claws am I holding up?” said the secretary bird, “two” said the Owl, and that was right. “Can you give me another expression for “that is to say,”  “namely?” asked the secretary bird. “To wit” said the owl. “Why does a lover call his love?” asked the secretary bird, “to woo,” said the owl.

The secretary bird hastened back to the other creatures and reported that the owl was indeed the greatest and wisest animal in the world because he can see in the darkness and answer any question. “Can he see in the daytime, too?” asked a red fox. “Yes,” echoed dormouse and a French poodle. “Can he see in day time, too?” all the other creatures laughed at this silly question, and they set upon the Red Fox and his fiends and drove them out of the region. Then they sent a messenger to the owl and asked him to be their leader.

When the owl appeared among the animals, it was high noon and the sun was shinning brightly. He walked very slowly, which gave him the appearance of great dignity, and he peered about him with large staring eyes, which gave him an air tremendous importance.

“He is God!!” Screamed a Plymouth Rock hen. And the other took up the cry “he is God!” So they followed him wherever he went and when he began to bump into things they began to bump into things too. Finally, he came to a concrete highway and he started up the middle of it and all the other creatures followed him.

Presently a hawk, who was acting as outrider, observed, observed a truck coming toward them at fifty miles an hour, he reported to the secretary bird and the secretary bird reported to the owl. “There is danger ahead,” said the secretary bird. “To wit?” said the owl The secretary bird told him “Aren’t you afraid?” he asked, “who?” said the owl calmly, for he could not see the truck.

“He is God!” cried all the creatures again, and they were still crying “He is God!” when the truck hit them and run and run them down. Some of the animals were merely injured, but most of them, including the owl, were killed.

Moral:
In this part of the world, we have many people who are thrown into leadership position but later begin to have a feeling that they are gods. They see hordes of followers behind them and soon imagine that they are beyond reproach.

The Started with populist programme and soon become power-drunk. the only sound that rhyme in their ears are those that praise them. Even when they are waling into self destruction they will still be clinging to the voices of the praise singers and the sycophancy. The leaders become blind, and hence fail to see the path ahead of them.

Meanwhile followers can be divided into two: Conscious and subconscious followers.  The subconscious followers can be grouped into three sections:
One, those who are clueless and are awed by the macabre dances of their blind leaders. They follow their leaders because they believe the leaders are super humans, saints and messiah;
Two those who are suffering from compulsive "herd mentality". They have no specific goals, ideology or personal direction. They follow because everyone/majority are following the particular leaders. It could be based on tribe, religion or other superfluous logic. They just want to belong.
The third types are following the leaders for selfish reasons. They know there is "something" for them, directly or indirectly and therefore display absolute loyalty to the leaders even if on suicide mission. As long as they are benefiting, it doesn't matter to them where the leaders are heading. They follow, even when they know the leaders are wrong, they will hope they are exempted from impending doom that may befall the leaders. They cant risk being seen as disloyal and they will openly serve their leaders with maximum devotion. You will know them when their leaders fall and when there is change at the top. They always have excuses and reason why they are decamping.
