The ongoing international engineering conference in Uyo, had produced the best Branch and Division for the year. the NSE Akure Branch emergeS as the best among the branches while the Nigerian Institution of Electrical Electronics Engineers return to claim the top among the divisions.
In a keenly contested competition which had become an annual event to adjudged how the over 60 Branches and Divisions of NSE perform through the year also resulted in NSE Osogbo claiming the second spit while four divisions ( NSE Lagos Branch, NSE Maitama Branch, NSE Abuja and Port Harcourt Branch) shared the third place.

At division level, the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers drops to second place having claimed the trophy twice in the last two years while the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers returns to top three by coming 3rd after wandering outside the spot for years. and displaced the Nigerian Institution of mechanical Engineers which had enjoyed the top three for past few years.
The case of NSE Osogbo branch under the immediate past chairman, Engr Adeniran Ibitoye AKA Kilomodemo strikes an interesting narrative. the Branch against all odds came from being perennial low performer for years to displace the elite branches at the top last year by coming first. its coming second this year is an attestation that it position was not a fluke after all.
At the Divisions level, the, the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, NIEEE mounted a strong challenge to reclaim the trophy that has almost become it's birthright until NICE (Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers) which had lurked behind in second spot, outperformed the division and repeated it again the last year.
In an interview with our correspondence last year the former National Chairman of NIEEE, Engr Sunday Makinde predicted it's division would return to drawing board in a bid to do better. As they are not comfortable with being trailer. He joked: "It is an open secret that we temporarily lend the first position and trophy to another Division, just to let them have a feel of it for a one-year term which is already elapsing, and so that we won't be tagged as selfish. We're now taking back what rightly belongs to us..." So prophetic! Indeed, the Division has been one of the most of the NSE activities and practically unbeatable through its many high profile programmes over the years.

This year winner of the Branch category, Engr Jide Atandeyi (who started its professional services at three times winner, NSE Ikeja branch) recalled what it took to clinch top spot. in his words:
"When I came on-board as Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Akure Branch in March 2014, I made a covenant to bring the much coveted Cup of the Best Branch among all the 63 Branches in the country to the Branch. We came 3rd in 2014, we retained the 3rd position in 2015 and I told God to help us so that I can hand over the Victory Cup to the next Chairman. To the glory of God, on Wednesday 23rd November, 2016 this dream was fulfilled NSE Akure Branch, came first position among 63 Branches in the Group Dynamic Competition."

To those who do not know, the NSE current boost of over 60 Branches across the country in all state of federation. Branches are the platform through which the NSE engages the engineers at local level and enable it to serve thousands of its members across the country. Branches are headed by a chairman. any engineer could belong to any branch of his choice.

Divisions on the other hand are the specialized platform of NSE created to address the development of engineering and technology and to respond to growing global challenges. they are the vehicles saddled with the tasks of championing specific engineering division like mechanical, space technology, civil, facility management, Naval and Marine etc. Divisions are however independent with national secretariat headed by a National Chairman and chapters in states headed State Chairman. All Engineers are expect to be a member of a Division they specialized in and participate in their activities.
Group dynamic competition is an annual competition where the profession activities of branches and Divisions of NSE are subject to intense scrutiny and graded. The winners are announced during the annual conference of the society.
