Before you become bearer of bad news...

Some People breaking bad news with glee as if there is special medal for broadcasting other people's sorrow... It doesn't look nice. If they can lay their hands on the picture of affected persons, they will fall over one another in "TAGmania" while they display disturbing images of the victims, dead or alive. The tragedy of it all is to find that after the bad news has gone viral, it turned out to be false!

How about waiting for confirmation before going to market with sorry story? Bad news need not be breaking but we live in a strange world where people's obsession for consuming negative information is alarmingly high. The media make so much money from it. but then, what of the private citizens who are not making money from it? Should you become bearer of bad news? What is your gain in being the first to announce the death or tragedy that befall fellow man?

In the olden days, the bearers of bad news are often put to death in some society. Such that even if there is bad news to break, it is often done with wisdom and parable. You don't go break news of someone's death without first informing certain people in the family. Today, many people have died so many times on social media that I am tempted to say that resurrection is now a common occurrence. You are killed on social media and wake up in your room the following day!

The words of Baltasar Gracian is worth pondering upon by reasonable ones among us "Do everything pleasant yourself, everything unpleasant through third parties. By adopting the first course you win favour, by taking the second you deflect ill will. Important affairs often require rewards and punishments. Let only the hood come from you and the evil from others."

Love and care...
